On 14th September 2013 Right Structures’ arch system helped the production team of ‘Rockestra’ bring its creative vision to life, allowing them to hang over 20 tonnes of equipment inside the tented venue Malta Fairs and Convention Centre (MFCC), the parent company of Right Structures.
Rockestra brings together the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra with the brightest singing stars on the island to perform well-known rock songs from AC/DC and Alanis Morisette to Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. In its fifth year, the event raises money for The Malta Community Chest Fund, with all profits going to local people in need.
This year was the biggest Rockestra yet – and Malta’s largest ever indoor audience – welcoming over 12,500 people to the MFCC. Broadcast on the national station, PBS TV, this year’s event was held under the patronage of the President of Malta, George Abela, who visited the team during rehearsals and was guest of honour on the night.

Right Structures’ arch system was used by the production team to hang its extensive PA, lighting and video plot. The arches offer a strong rigging alternative to ground support for event organisers holding events in marquees, and temporary and tensioned fabric structures (TFS). The MFCC benefits from three permanent arches, shaped to fit the roof each with a 30tonne rigging capacity.
Edward Zammit, Right Structures’ project manager, said: “For Rockestra two arches formed the roof of the stage area hanging 18 LED screens across the back, two larger flanking screens on either side and an extensive array of lighting and laser equipment. The PA system plus live and broadcast cameras were also hung from the arches, which comfortably accommodated 17.5 tonnes of production equipment."
The arch system formed the stage roof, offering ample rigging capacity to the production team.
For Rockestra the third arch was positioned three quarters of the way down the 130m x 30m venue, offering additional rigging capacity for a large LED delay screen showing live footage of the on-stage action to the audience seated at the rear of the venue, along with a follow spot platform and two additional delay hangs of line-array speakers.
Edward concluded: “The show was a huge success and looked and sounded fantastic both in the venue and on television. We were very proud to have supported Rockestra with His Excellency the President, the Prime Minister, the leader of the Opposition, and other senior ministers and politicians present, all working to raise profile and money for such a worthy cause.”
